In many cases, his techniques provide an alternative to traditional surgery for various conditions. Patients facing men’s or women’s health issues, hemorrhoids, peripheral artery and vein diseases, diabetic ulcers and certain cancers may be candidates for IR. Additionally, his techniques can be a form of pain management.

The IR process involves a tiny device called a catheter, which our Austin radiologist uses to block off or open up vessels in the problem area. The result is effective relief. Best of all, patients can return home after their procedure and resume their normal activities within a few days.

When it comes to interventional radiology, experience matters, and Dr. Smith offers a wealth of it. This board certified vascular and interventional radiologist completed his residency at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago. He then went on to complete the prestigious vascular and interventional radiology fellowship at the Medical College of Wisconsin. This is one of the top programs in the world for this specialty.

Throughout Dr. Smith’s career, he has been at the forefront of vascular and interventional radiology, dedicating 100% of his time to his craft. This level of focus has allowed him to become a pioneer in the field. For example, he was among the first physicians to start performing prostate artery embolization in Texas in 2017. Dr. Smith also began providing genicular artery embolization, an emerging nonsurgical treatment for knee arthritis, in 2021.
