Valerie Shellenberger, PA-C
Valerie Shellenberger, PA-C, is a certified Physician Assistant who is passionate about providing compassionate, individualized care and helping patients understand their treatment options. She was drawn to the PA profession because of the opportunity to make a meaningful difference in patients’ lives while building lasting relationships and continuing to learn throughout her career.
Valerie earned her Bachelor’s degree in Public Health from Texas A&M University before completing her Master’s in Physician Assistant Studies at UNT Health Science Center in Fort Worth.
Her connection to Urology Specialists of Austin began before PA school, when she worked as a Medical Assistant in urology. After completing her PA training, Valerie began her career in primary care, where she developed a strong foundation in general medicine and gained valuable experience providing comprehensive, individualized care. She especially enjoyed building relationships with patients, practicing preventive medicine, and taking the time to understand each patient’s unique health goals.
Valerie was drawn to Interventional Radiology because of the specialty’s combination of patient care and minimally invasive procedures. She appreciates the opportunity to offer patients alternatives to traditional surgical treatments and is excited to develop her procedural skills while helping patients navigate treatment options that may improve their quality of life.
She is particularly passionate about caring for patients with chronic conditions or symptoms that can significantly impact their daily lives. Valerie believes that education is an important part of patient care and takes the time to explain diagnoses, treatment options, risks, benefits, and expected outcomes so patients can feel confident and informed about their care.
Her approach to medicine is centered on treating the whole person, not simply the diagnosis. Valerie believes patients should feel heard, understood, and genuinely cared for. She takes the time to listen to their concerns and make sure they understand why a particular treatment is being recommended.
As she begins her career in Interventional Radiology, Valerie is excited to expand her procedural knowledge and work alongside Dr. Smith to provide comprehensive, minimally invasive care. She looks forward to combining her experience in urology and primary care with her growing expertise in Interventional Radiology to help patients achieve better outcomes and an improved quality of life.
Outside of work, Valerie enjoys spending time with her husband, friends, and cats. She loves thrifting and exploring estate sales and enjoys creative hobbies including crocheting, pottery, and sewing. She also stays active with Pilates and weightlifting and enjoys spending time outdoors hiking and swimming.
